Grand Valley Bible Institute

In 1992 Pastor Bob Searles and Vernon Mitchell had a desire to see an
evening Bible Institute in our area. They recruited a couple of other pastors to
help them in forming the Grand Valley Bible Institute. For the first three years
the Grand Valley Baptist Church hosted the Institute. Since 1995 the Institute
has met at the Ottawa Center Chapel.

The Grand Valley Bible Institute uses the facilities of the Ottawa Center Chapel
located three miles west of the Eastmanville corner on Leonard Road. Address: 8991 Leonard Road (corner of Leonard and 88th Ave.)

Our students range from college age to retired people. We welcome anyone who is in high school or older. Our class size averages about 10.

The present teachers include: Cliff Cole, retired biology teacher from Allendale
High School and elder at Ottawa Center, John Romanosky, pastor of the Sullivan Community Church in Ravenna and Bob Porterfield – pastor of the Ottawa Center Chapel.

GVBI uses the curriculum developed by THE BIBLE INSTITUTE GROUP of Lynchburg, VA.  This material basically is an outline of Wilmington’s Guide to the Bible. Each teacher provides his own material and emphasis in the class lectures. Each student is asked to purchase a copy of Wilmington’s Guide to the Bible and tuition pays for a loose leaf note book for each class. The Institute is set up on a six semester system.  Each semester is 16 weeks long. The Institute teaches the curriculum in a three year cycle. A student does not need to start at semester one but may enter the semester sequence at any point. Testing is done after every four classes. Most of the tests are short answer, true/false or multiple choice. GVBI began offering two additional classes in Bible Background and Church History (1700 to present) in the fall of 2010.

Cost for the Institute is $30 for a one time registration fee for new students. In addition, each class is $35/semester or $90 for all three classes/semester. Other than your Bible the only other required text book is Wilmington’s Guide to the Bible which can be purchased for $35/copy.
